How the estimate is built
The calculator does four small, visible steps. Nothing is hidden in a black box.
area = length × width (each room, added up)
order = area × (1 + extra %), rounded up
installed, starting at = area × posted installed rate
material only, starting at = order × posted material price
boxes = order ÷ sq ft per box, rounded up
The installed rate is applied to the floor area itself, the same way VFO's own rates are quoted per square foot of floor. The extra percentage only matters when you buy material yourself: you pay for the offcuts, so the material-only line uses the order quantity. For example, a 320 sq ft living room in SPC starts at 320 × $4.83 for material and installation.
Anything VFO does not post a price for (tearing out tile, leveling a slab, stairs, trim, moving furniture, hardwood) shows Quoted after your free in-home measure. The hidden-costs guide explains what each of those involves.

VFO posts no hardwood price online.
Quick answers
Is this a quote?
No. It is a starting point built from posted "starting at" rates. The written price comes after someone measures the rooms, checks the slab and sees what has to come out first.
Why is my real price likely higher than the starting number?
Starting rates cover the floor itself. Removing old tile, patching or leveling concrete, stairs, new baseboards and transitions are separate lines on most quotes. The quote-comparison worksheet shows how to line them up.
Why no hardwood price?
VFO doesn't post one online, and this tool never invents a number. Hardwood reads "Quoted after your free in-home measure."
